Matty was the type of kid who pored over the Real Estate section in the Sunday paper, accompanied his parents to open houses on the weekends, and demanded home tours of all his friends. It was inevitable that he’d become a real estate agent.

There is something really meaningful in having a piece of land that you can call your own and fix up just how you like it. When he’s home shopping for a buyer, he gets the same giddy excitement he felt when he was looking to buy his first house years ago.

His ideal adventure for an urban Portland day: Pastry breakfast at Ken’s Artisan Bakery on NW 21st, a bike ride up into the West Hills, lunch and more pastries at Baker & Spice in Hillsdale, return home to soak in the hot tubs at Cascada in Alberta Arts, dinner at Bamboo Sushi, then boozy board games with his friends in front of his fireplace.

His superpower: The ability to remain close friends with all his exes.

Superpower his wishes he had: The ability to know what a plant needs to thrive.

Favorite moment in real estate: Handing over the housekeys to my first client.

Favorite Portland neighborhood, and why? Portland Heights, because it’s leafy and hilly but above all because it’s crammed with urban stairways, which are his Special Interest. He loves exploring residential urban stairways. There are so many that they’ve published guides for stairs in LA, San Francisco, Berkeley, Seattle, and of course Portland.
