Each summer Tin House Books gathers together a handful of esteemed colleagues and talented up-and-coming writers for a week of workshops, seminars, and readings on the beautiful campus of Reed College. Among this year’s cohort are novelists Tayari Jones and Alexander Chee, essayist Melissa Febos, and poets Shane McCrae and Danez Smith.

For more than 60 years, the Portland Highland Games have delighted participants and attendees with a spirited Scottish experience including bag pipers and drummers, dancers, sheep dog demonstrations and powerful athletes.
PROHIBITION ERA PICNIC

Pack an elegant picnic luncheon and don your finest prohibition era attire for this family friendly throwback to prohibition Portland hosted by the Time Travelers Costume Guild. Share some nosh, stroll through the lovely rose gardens, join in lawn and card games, and have your photo taken with a 1920 Model T Ford.

The NW Film Center’s annual outdoor film series held atop the Portland State University PS2 parking structure features an eclectic array of films ranging from the 1940’s murder mystery Laura to Penelope Spheeris’s Wayne’s World. The event includes performances from local bands, food and beverages, and a short film by a PSU filmmaker before each feature.
MONTAVILLA STREET FAIR
