The House The Piet & Keven Built Vol IV: Oh, What A Little Paint Can Do!

One of the first things I always do upon moving into a new place is paint. It is the cheapest and most effective way to completely change a space. We did some painting before moving in, some after, and there are still a couple rooms that are waiting in line for a makeover.

The first room we painted was the living room. The original color was quite lovely, but I wanted the space to feel as open and airy as possible. Plus I have been waiting for an opportunity to use Benjamin Moore’s “Swiss Coffee”. It lived up to all my expectations and more! An intentional off-white that feels warm and cool all at the same time. I used this color throughout the house to help the spaces flow together. The master bedroom is primarily Swiss Coffee with a dark charcoal grey accent wall at the head of the bed. Removing the ceiling fan made a huge difference as well in opening up the room.

The last little paint job I wanted to feature on this post is our front door! If you refer back to our previous post in February titled “First Impressions of a Colorful Front Door“, you will learn that choosing your front door color can be a statement about who you are what what “home” means to you. That combined with our lovely minty green siding brought us to choose a custom lime green / chartreuse (a big thanks to the patience of the paint staff at Parkrose Hardware). I wanted a color that was in the citrus family and that would always look warm and cheery no matter what season. Here are the results!

We also repainted the rail and the house numbers to match our new porch light. Future plans to repaint the front steps as well…but that feels a bit more daunting so I am procrastinating on that one. Stay tuned for our “Oh What A Little Paint Can Do Part Deux!”
