This year’s 9th annual Japanese Currents series highlights recent noteworthy Nipponese films, ranging from anime to jidaigeki, documentary to comedy, all while exploring issues important to contemporary Japanese society. Collectively, these selections offer a fresh take on Japanese culture and showcase the wealth of creative invention at work in Japan today.

December 12th, 1:30 PM | Pioneer Courthouse Square
Downtown Portland will pulse with the melodic sounds of big brass as over 250 tubas play in unison for the 25th Annual Tuba Christmas Concert. You aren’t limited to listening to this impressive, seasonal performance—tuba and euphonioum players of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.

December 13TH, 8:00 AM | Adidas N. America Campus
Get in the holiday spirit and treat yourself to the most festive holiday race of the season. With carolers serenading you all along the course, you will be delightfully distracted as you wind your way through the streets of North Portland. Finish the race and treat yourself to a craft beer seasonal brew, hearty holiday soup, hot chocolate, oatmeal, egg nog, and more! If you’re not excited about Holiday festivities after this race, then you just might be the Grinch!

Since the 1920s, each house in this quaint SE neighborhood has been decorating for Christmas. Mostly Tudors, the houses are adorned with not only beautiful sparkling lights, but also nativity scenes, rotating Christmas trees and stunningly life-like replicas of Santa and Frosty. Don’t miss this popular Portland tradition!
