Life in Portland Blog

August 2013 Picks

August 2nd-4th, 11Am : Pendarvis Farm
A three-day, multigenre jamboree held in the woodsy redoubts of Clackamas County, this is Portland’s smart-money choice for sharply curated music and a humane, laid-back atmosphere.

13th Annual Portland Zine Symposium
August 10th & 11th, 10AM : Refuge PDX
Independent media draws a crowd at this free, two-day gathering of local zinesters, with workshops and lively panel discussions.

Oregon Garlic Festival
August 16th-18th, 9AM : Sunset Speedway
Everything at this fragrant fest is spiked with garlic goodness (even ice cream-yikes!), while live music, arts and crafts, and the pageantry of the Smelly King and Queen round out the whiffy wonderment.

Bridgetown Classic Charity Event
August 17th, 8AM : Irving Park
This three-on-three outdoor basketball tournament for the whole family benefits the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division. Besides all the fun on the basketball court there will be a Back-to-School clothing drive to benefit the Sunshine Division.

Festival Italiana
August 22nd-24th, 11AM : Pioneer Courthouse Square
You don’t have to be from Venice to enjoy Italian food, wine, singers, and dancers-but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to pretend for a few days at the 22nd edition of this Roman holiday.
