HAPPY BIRTHDAY: A CELEBRATION OF CHANCE AND LISTENING

This exhibit marks the centennial of John Cage’s birth and the influence of his ideas on the visual arts. Cage was arguably one of the most influential artists of the post-war period. Through the work of seven artists spanning several generations, the exhibit explores the ways in which Cage’s teachings and ideas live on today, with a particular focus on embracing change and silence as a method in working process.

For many years Yachats Oregon’s Celtic Music Festival has thrilled audiences with a lively blend of foot-tapping Celtic music, humor, scrumptious food, and graceful dancers. For this, the 11th Anniversary of the Festival, acclaimed performers from the old countries will mix harmoniously with home grown American masters to fill the Village of Yachats with traditional (and not so traditional) Celtic Music.

Learn how to design your landscape to reduce water use, decrease stormwater runoff and improve habitat for local birds, wildlife, and you! PORTLAND ARTS & LECTURES : BARBARA KINGSOLVER
November 16th, 7:30pm – 9pm : Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall
Barbara Kingsolver’s novels include The Poisonwood Bible, Animal Dreams, The Bean Trees and The Lacuna. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages and has earned literary awards and a devoted readership at home and abroad. Kingsolver will be in conversation with Literary Arts’ Executive Director, Andrew Proctor.

Carrie Brownstein is an actor, comedian, and musician best known for the legendary indie-rock band Sleater-Kinney. Together, they are the co-creators and starts of the Peabody Award-winning sketch comedy series Portlandia, which is now filming its third season…and releasing its first book, Portlandia: A Guide for Visitors.
